Thebe Mogane, a well-known South African musician, has been accused of vanishing with a promoter’s money following the cancellation of a show he was scheduled to perform at.
‘Thebe Mogane owes me R10 000’, promoter claims
As reported by City Press, the promoter, Berry Bereng Matseletsele, paid the Ungawa Kum hitmaker an R10 000 booking fee to secure his performance at a show held at Fafatsa Café in Maseru, Lesotho, in January 2021.
However, due to unspecified reasons, Mogane was a no-show and, in the end, Matseletsele was forced to cancel the event.
Matseletsele took the matter to court and Thebe allegedly promised to refund the promoter’s money in two instalments but has since gone into hiding.
The article also mentions that the musician has been unresponsive to the promoter’s attempts to contact him and, according to Masteletsele, the Safety Belt star no longer resides at his last known address in Midrand, Gauteng.
“He came to court. He was told to pay and he made arrangements that he never honoured. I am struggling to get his new address. He no longer stays where I knew,” Matseletsele revealed.
Thebe Mogane, also known as Thebe, is a popular South African Kwaito musician who rose to fame in the 1990s.
He has released several albums and is known for his unique style of music that combines traditional African rhythms with modern beats. The musician has been involved in the music industry for over two decades and has amassed a large following of fans throughout South Africa.
While this incident has caused disappointment and frustration among fans, it also raises important questions about the responsibilities that musicians have towards their fans and the industry at large. It remains to be seen how this situation will be resolved, and whether Thebe will be held accountable for his actions.
For now, however, Matseletsele is stuck with a court order he can’t serve since nobody knows his new address.
“The court gave us an order for him to pay. He signed and agreed that he would do so in two instalments but after that he never paid me. When I went back, they said I needed to get a sheriff to serve him, but now the problem is that they say they do not know his new address. We called the person he stays with now and she was about to come to meet with us but then cancelled on us in the last hour,” the promoter revealed.
