South Africans brace for a tumultuous start to the weekend as severe weather conditions are expected to unfold across the northern and eastern regions.
The South African Weather Service (SAWS) has issued a Yellow Level 2 Warning for severe thunderstorms on Saturday.
These thunderstorms, accompanied by strong wind and hail, are forecasted to cause localised damage to property and lead to disruptions in essential services.
The affected areas include the northeastern parts of the Eastern Cape, the extreme northeastern parts of the Northern Cape, as well as the Free State and North West Province, with the exception of their extreme eastern parts.

Eastern Cape
The Eastern Cape is set to experience a day of varying weather conditions. The northeastern part is under a Yellow Level 2 Warning for severe thunderstorms that could cause localised flooding and damage.
The western half will be cool along the coast and warm inland, becoming cloudy with isolated showers and thundershowers expected in the north and extreme east.
Meanwhile, the eastern half will experience partly cloudy conditions, becoming cloudy with scattered showers and thundershowers, with a moderate to fresh south-westerly wind prevailing along the coast.
Free State
Residents of the Free State should prepare for a warm day with the potential for scattered showers and thundershowers.
This province is also part of the area under a Yellow Level 2 Warning for severe thunderstorms, where strong winds and hail may result in localised disruptions and damage.
Gauteng
Gauteng will have a cool and cloudy Saturday, with isolated showers and thundershowers throughout the day. Despite the overcast weather, the UVB sunburn index remains low, indicating minimal risk of sunburn.
KwaZulu-Natal
In KwaZulu-Natal, the day will be warm and partly cloudy, turning cloudy in the afternoon with scattered showers and thundershowers anticipated in the south. The rest of the province can expect isolated showers, particularly in the extreme north-east.
Coastal areas will have moderate to fresh north-easterly winds and a moderate UVB sunburn index.
Limpopo
Limpopo will see a warm day starting with partly cloudy skies. It will become cloudy later, with isolated afternoon showers and thundershowers expected in the southwestern Bushveld.
Mpumalanga
Morning fog patches are likely along the escarpment in Mpumalanga, but the day will clear up to be partly cloudy and warm. The extreme south-west of the province might see isolated afternoon showers and thundershowers.
North West
The North West Province is anticipating a warm day with cloudy skies and scattered showers and thundershowers, although these will be isolated in the extreme eastern parts of the province. The region is part of the Yellow Level 2 Warning for severe thunderstorms that are predicted to sweep across the area.
Northern Cape
In the Northern Cape, the day will be partly cloudy and warm to hot, with isolated showers and thundershowers expected in the eastern parts. However, conditions will turn cloudy with scattered thundershowers in the extreme northeast.
The Namakwa District will be cool in places, and a fresh southerly to south-westerly wind is expected along the coast, becoming strong north of Port Nolloth by evening.
Western Cape
The Western Cape will have a cool to warm day under cloudy skies. Morning isolated showers and rain are predicted in the west and south-western parts, spreading to the south coast by the afternoon.
Coastal winds will be moderate to fresh south-westerly but will become strong westerly along the south coast in the morning. The province will have a very high UVB sunburn index, indicating a significant risk of sunburn despite the cloudy conditions.
