Ahead of the much-anticipated State of the Nation Address (SONA) 2024, NATJOINTS ha put to bed any concerns regarding security threats.
NATJOINTS rolls out security plan to quell threats at SONA 2024
The collaborative security force, comprising SAPS, the State Security Agency (SSA), and SANDF, has been working tirelessly, ensuring that the Cape Town City Hall and its environs are not just secure but primed for peace and safety during this pivotal event.
Their efforts have been extensive, focusing on maintaining the serenity of the occasion and safeguarding participants, spectators, local communities, and businesses alike.
The security measures are comprehensive, with NATJOINTS having rolled out an operational plan ready for execution.
“All law enforcement agencies led by the SAPS have mobilised resources to heighten police visibility with the aim of preventing and combatting any form of opportunistic crimes before, during and post the planned address,” NATJOINTS said.
In a bid to maintain order, NATJOINTS has issued a stern warning against any forms of lawlessness, criminality, or disruptive behaviour.
“No disruptions will be allowed and tolerated by law enforcement,” the security cluster warned.
Parliament targets disruptors with new rule
Parliament, too, is taking a firm stand against interruptions during the presidential speech, enforcing new rules that prohibit any member from disrupting the address.
“In terms of the new rules, no member is allowed to interrupt the President while delivering the State of the Nation Address. Similarly, interruptions are prohibited during the President’s speech at the Opening of Parliament, which is the first sitting of the two Houses,” Speaker Nosiviwe Mapisa-Nqakula warned.
SONA 2024: Cape Town road closures to take note of
The anticipation of SONA 2024 has also led to significant road closures in Cape Town, impacting daily routines and requiring adjustments from residents and visitors alike.
Key roads around the Cape Town City Hall, including Darling Street, Parade Street, and others, will see closures at various times to facilitate the smooth running of the event.
These closures are essential for securing the venue and surrounding areas, ensuring that the security measures in place are effective and unhampered by vehicular or pedestrian congestion.
The public is advised to plan their routes accordingly, keeping abreast of the temporary adjustments to the city’s traffic flow.
