A serious taxi crash on the M1 Higginson Highway has resulted in multiple injuries among schoolchildren.
M1 Higginson Highway taxi crash: Here’s everything we know
The incident occurred early on Thursday on Durban-bound lanes near the Chatsmed offramp, where a taxi transporting school children was involved in a significant accident.
ALS Paramedics were first to respond to the emergency, with additional ambulances and Advanced Life Support teams dispatched to provide necessary aid.
Details about the number of children injured and the severity of their injuries are still unfolding.
However, authorities are on high alert, given that this crash comes on the heels of another tragic event on the same highway just two weeks prior, which resulted in two fatalities.
The earlier incident took place after 20:00 on Wednesday, 25 October 2023. A vehicle travelling towards Chatsworth lost control, collided with barriers, and rolled onto the opposite side of the highway.
This accident was described as horrific by ALS Paramedics, with ejected occupants and two men found deceased at the scene.
Three other individuals, including one woman and two men, suffered critical injuries in the previous crash.
They were treated on-site before being transported to a nearby hospital for further care. This sequence of events underscores the need for heightened safety measures on the M1 Higginson Highway.
