Master KG is basking in the glory of yet another old song, Waya Waya, that’s gone viral on TikTok.
Is this Master KG’s new viral TikTok song?
The Jerusalema effect is permeating once again on TikTok. Master KG has found a way to make one of his old songs relevant on the social media platform, and, while it’s still very early into the trend, it seems he could be in line for another globally streamed post-release hit.
The phenomenon of Jerusalema‘s ascension to the top of global streaming charts in 2020 is still a head-scratcher for music researchers. The single, which has since been shrouded in controversy over copyright ownership, was released in late 2019.
It languished at the foot of charts for an entire year before a TikTok challenge spawned a global trend that even saw Cristiano Ronaldo use it as the soundtrack to his wedding reel.
TikTok, it seems, is very much involved in the rise of Waya Waya, the first song on his debut album, Skeleton Move, released in September 2018, and featuring contributions from Team Mosha.
For some reason, a TikTok account, ‘Good Vibes Only’, that first surfaced on the platform in mid-June 2022 is behind the concerted push for Waya Waya‘s viral moment.
Even Master KG shared the channel’s link on his social media pages, encouraging fans to interact with the new TikTok challenge.
Here are some of the video clips taken from the viral Waya Waya challenge:

The Limpopo producer will want to tie up any loose ends with regard to the business behind Waya Waya. The song is one of 10 songs listed on his Skeleton Moves.
Copyright ownership of the viral song, from what we understand, is solely credited to Open Mic Productions, his record company. Team Mosha is only listed as a feature and does not appear under the composer and producer credits.
Due to a lack of clarity in his business as an up-and-comer, Master KG has been hauled to court over copyright ownership claims made by two local musicians, Charmza the DJ and Biblos, who claim in a lawsuit that Jerusalema is not only their intellectual property but that the global hit song was produced and written by Charmza.
Master KG, of course, has vehemently denied this claim, and the matter is currently under sub judice.
