A grave accident involving two trucks and a car resulted in a complete shutdown of traffic flow at the critical M7/N2 North interchange, in Durban, Kwa-Zulu Natal (KZN).
The incident, occurring on a busy Sunday, caused significant disruptions, with the west off-ramp to the N2 North blocked, trapping vehicles in a growing snarl-up, per SA Trucker
The cascade of events began when a truck, heading eastbound down the M7, spiralled out of control as it approached the interchange. This loss of control set off a disastrous chain reaction, leading to a collision with another container truck exiting onto the N2 north.
The impact was so forceful that it dislodged two containers from the super link trailer, sending them crashing onto the road below.
In a stroke of misfortune, one container landed on a VW Polo, which was driving adjacent to the container truck.
Emergency services were quick to the scene, with ALS Paramedics providing urgent medical care. The extent of injuries and the total count of those affected have not yet been disclosed to the public.
Authorities are exerting all efforts to manage the aftermath of the crash and to clear the debris to restore traffic flow.
However, with the off-ramp closure leading to a significant backlog on the M7 westbound, officials are advising drivers to take alternate routes.
