M1 highway crash: Here’s everything we know
The crash occurred on the M1 highway, specifically near the Atholl off-ramp.
Initial reports indicate that prisoners were being transported at the time of the accident. Fatalities and several injuries have been confirmed, although the exact number is yet to be disclosed.
Due to this fatal crash at Melrose on the M1, major delays are expected for commuters. Alternative routes suggested are Louis Botha or Rivonia Road for those travelling north or south.

City of Joburg: Road safety a major concern, officials warn
The City of Johannesburg has recently been on high alert regarding road safety.
A stern warning was issued, emphasising the need for road users to be considerate and to refrain from drinking and driving.
This comes after 248 individuals were arrested by the Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department (JMPD) officers from 16 to 22 October 2023 for DUI offences.
The breathalyser readings of these individuals exceeded the legal limit of 0.24mg/l.
The City of Joburg has reiterated its warning against drinking and driving, stating, “Be considerate of other road users. Don’t drink and drive!”
