In a shocking turn of events, Lebohang Machaba, the estranged wife of renowned footwear brand Drip boss Lekau Sehoana, has been arrested on charges of conspiracy to commit murder and extortion.
Lebohang Machaba accused of hiring hitmen to kill Lekau
As reported by Sunday World, the arrest took place at her residence in Waterfall Country Estates, sending shockwaves through the community.
According to sources, Lekau Sehoana initiated legal action against his wife, alleging that she orchestrated a scheme to hire hitmen with the intention of taking his life.
These grave accusations emerged amidst an ongoing battle for shares in the couple’s once-shared footwear empire. Lebohang claims to have played a pivotal role in establishing the business during their time together.
Law enforcement authorities apprehended Lehogang Machaba at her home on Friday, 23 June 2023, and she is currently being held in the Silverton police holding cells until her court appearance on Monday at the Pretoria magistrate’s court.
The charges of conspiracy to commit murder and extortion have cast a dark shadow over their once-prominent relationship.
Lekau’s life spared by alleged hitman’s conscience
A confession statement, obtained by Sunday World, sheds light on the alleged plot. An alleged hitman, whose identity is being withheld, implicated Lebohang as the mastermind behind the plan to eliminate her husband.
The statement details a meeting where Lebohang offered a substantial sum of R1.2 million to carry out the heinous act.
Fortunately, the murder plot was thwarted when the businessman received a tip-off, prompting him to alert the authorities and file a report. Police investigations have been ongoing, with law enforcement officers frequently visiting Lebohang’s estate in recent weeks, although her whereabouts remained elusive until her arrest.
This distressing incident follows previous legal disputes between Lekau and Lebohang, with battles over business ownership and shares escalating between the former couple. The tensions culminated in Lekau filing an extortion case against Lebohang at the Midrand police station, further intensifying the already volatile situation.
Gauteng Police have confirmed that the extortion case is actively under investigation. Police spokesperson Mavela Masondo affirmed the ongoing nature of the inquiry, stating:
“We can confirm that a case of extortion has been opened at Pretoria Central Police, and the investigation is underway.”
As the legal proceedings unfold, the community remains gripped by the shocking allegations levelled against Lebohang Machaba, the woman once intertwined with the success of Drip Footwear.
The court appearance on Monday will mark a significant moment in this high-profile case, shedding further light on the intricate details of the alleged conspiracy to commit murder.
