The investigation into the drowning of Davido’s son, three-year-old Ifeanyi Adeleke, took a surprising turn when two of the eight domestic workers who were taken in for questioning on Tuesday were arrested.
Ifeanyi Adeleke drowning: Why were the domestic workers arrested?
While Davido and his partner Chioma Rowland have yet to surface with a public statement in reaction to the untimely death of their son, reports emerging from Nigerian media suggest that the couple’s nanny and cook have been charged with child neglect and failing to uphold the duty of care of a minor.
A source close to the investigation was quoted by Punch confirming that in the eyes of the law, “the nanny was negligent, or how could the boy have left the house without her knowledge?”
Moreover, from what police have gathered thus far, it seems Ifeanyi Adeleke may have strolled into the backyard of Davido’s Banana Island property and fell into the swimming pool and drowned.
โThe boy left the house, walked to the back where the swimming pool is situated and fell into the swimming pool. Nobody noticed until much later. At that point in time, he had drowned and was at the bottom of the swimming pool,” the source added.
It’s believed the toddler was rushed to two separate hospitals, where efforts to resuscitate him were futile.
The identities of the nanny and cook had not been made public at the time this article was published.
Nigerian authorities have confirmed that an autopsy will be performed on the three-year-old to confirm the cause of death.
โThough the family members are not saying anything yet because they are still in shock but until anybody says stop, the standard procedure is to conduct an autopsy and we are going to follow that procedure just like in any case of death,โ the source said.
