The spread of coronavirus (COVID-19) has had a worldly impact and affected many lives, for Tekashi 6ix9ine the virus’ rapid growth in the United States (US) has become his one-way ticket out of jail.
Tekashi 6ix9ine is getting released from the feds?
According to Rolling Stone, who obtained information from the US attorney the prosecuted the rapper, Geoff Berman, it is very likely that Tekashi 6ix9ine will be released from federal confinement in a matter of hours.
The rapper has been in the feds for 17 months, serving the better part of his two-year plea deal that saw him skirt racketeering charges and bring down one of America’s most notorious gangs, the Treyway Bloods.
COVID-19 could be his ‘Get out of Jail’ card
An opportunity for his release to be expedited came when COVID-19 hit the US hard, forcing many states, including New York, to enforce strict quarantine protocols.
The death toll in the tri-state area has surpassed 3 000 and in a bid to contain the increasing numbers in overwhelmed hospitals, a military hospital ship was dispatched to lessen the burden and deal with intensive care not related to COVID-19.
According to the rapper’s attorney, Lance Lazzaro, 6ix9ine is asthmatic, a respiratory deficiency that threatens his life should he catch the virus.
Based on Lazzaro’s claims and court documents seen by Rolling Stone and Inner City Press, it appears that the State, along with the feds, have resolved that the best outcome of the multiple motions he filed, is his immediate release from confinement.
What will happen once 6ix9ine is released?
The final decision rests in the hands of presiding judge Paul Engelmayer who is expected to make a call in a matter of hours.
“Based on what [Engelmayer] wrote this morning, it seems likely he’s going to grant it, I don’t want to put words into the judge’s mouth but I believe the judge will, at some point, approve my motion for compassionate release,” Lazzaro confidently said.
From what we understand, 6ix9ine will spend the remainder of his sentence in house arrest, at a location that is not known.
We will follow this up and provide updates on his movements.
