Babes Wodumo may have woken up with a hangover and a regret-filled conscience on Thursday, after a night of bingeing and ranting off on social media.
Babes Wodumo blasts Mampintsha’s mom
Wodumo, who is married to fellow Gqom star Mampintsha, was on Instagram Live in the late hours of Wednesday and what hundreds of watching fans did not expect was a full-scale rant that featured wild cussing targeted at her mother-in-law, Zama Gumede.
In her blind rage, Wodumo was heard accusing Gumede of dumping Mampintsha when he was only three days old. Albeit drunk and belligerent, Wodumo swore her son ‘Sponge’ would never grow up to inherit Gumede’s character.
Here is the viral clip that was repurposed on social media.

It’s no secret that Wodumo, real name Bongekile Simelane, and her mother-in-law do not see eye-to-eye. the country was first introduced to the in-law feud back in August 2021 when Babes and Mampintsha launched the music career of their son by giving him the pseudonym ‘Sponge Wodumo’.
This, we came to learn, was the couple’s way of taunting Gumede for believing that Babes had faked her pregnancy by stuffing sponges around her abdomen.
Speaking to the Daily Sun, a displeased Gumede warned her son and daughter-in-law against attracting curses into their marriage with their public smearing.
“The Bible says respect your father and your mother so that you will live longer. Clearly, they don’t know that verse in the Bible. They mustn’t make fun of me based on what I’ve said. These kids don’t know how life is. They are only living in a moment. It’s sad,” she said.
Responding to his mother’s claims, Mampintsha explained the idea to name his son Sponge was only for entertainment purposes and not to rile her up.
“We meant no disrespect to anyone, my mother in particular. Sponge Wodumo is a nice title for the song. A curse? I don’t know what to say about it,” he said.
