Travis Scott may have been on a hiatus since the Astroworld tragedy but, behind the scenes, the Houston rapper has surely been studying the mounting lawsuits against him and it seems, he’s found a possible exit route.
Travis Scott fights back, files to dismiss lawsuits in Astroworld tragedy
As reported by TMZ, La Flame filed papers in court to have the cases lodged against him which, at this time, totalled an estimated R11.6 billion, presided over by a single judge.
Moreover, Scott has made it clear in his response to the suits that he had absolutely nothing to do with the deaths of 10 concertgoers, which include 10-year-old Ezra Blount who’d anticipated the festival all year long.
From what we understand, the Cactus Jack label owner’s initial court response was to one of the surviving victims of the Astroworld tragedy, Jessie Garcia, where he submitted a ‘general denial’ to claims that he was culpable to the injuries he suffered.
This statement, it’s believed, Scott plans to use in every other suit filed against him, and by the looks of it, the rapper is only in defence of his own involvement. Drake, Live Nation, festival organisers and security companies are on their own.
The first legal response from Scott is a departure from his first statement he released on the day following the Astroworld tragedy. At the time, the rapper had vowed to “working together with the Houston community to heal and support the families in need.”
“I’m absolutely devastated by what took place last night. My prayers go out to the families and all those impacted by what happened at Astroworld Festival. Houston PD has my total support as they continue to look into the tragic loss of life.
“I am committed to working together with the Houston community to heal and support the families in need. Thank you to Houston PD, Fire Department, and NRG Park for their immediate response and support,” he said.
It remains to be seen what the courts will rule on the general denial as well as his plea for the cases to be heard by a single judge.
