Meghan Markle and her husband, Prince Harry’s controversial Netflix docuseries has reportedly been postponed until next year.
Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s docuseries delayed: Here’s what we know
As per Deadline, Netflix has reportedly delayed the release of Prince Harry and Markle’s at-home documentary until 2023. The reason, it’s believed, is owed to the criticism season 5 of The Crown received.
The docuseries is a component of the couple’s rumoured $100 million (est. R1.7 billion) deal with the streaming service. However, the creators of the series are being accused of fabricating a “hurtful” smear campaign against King Charles III. Consequently, the mounting speculation compelled Netflix to delay the release of the documentary series.
Netflix was expected to release the docuseries in December 2022 as a follow-up to the premiere ofThe Crown‘s fifth season, which comes out in November 2022.
Markle and Harry are expected to hold extensive talks about other royal family members in their docuseries. The talks will include family members such as the Prince and Princess of Wales, King Charles and Queen Consort Camilla.
Camera crews for the project followed Harry and Meghan for more than a year. And as part of the production, the crews filmed the pair during trips to New York and the Netherlands for the Invictus Games.
‘The Crown’ faces backlash over season five
The Queen Victoria Syndrome episode from season 5 of the series is, as previously stated, the catalyst behind the backlash. The creators named the episode after Queen Elizabeth II’s protracted 63-year reign. In the series, Charles complained to British Prime Minister John Major in 1991 about waiting to accede to the throne, a claim the politician recently denied and called “malicious nonsense.”
Another part of the episode shows Charles angrily sparring with Diana and romancing Camilla, including a dramatisation of the infamous “tampongate” phone call.
