Virginia and Viggy Qwabe, the two sisters that caused controversy in their dramatic Idols SA exit, have just inked a lucrative record deal with DJ Tira’s Afrotainment.

Who are the Qwabe twins?

The Qwabe twins gained popularity when they first appeared on the audition of Idols SA season 15.

Sure, twins are not as mindblowing of an anomaly anymore but what made the Qwabe duo unique was their incredible vocal ability. They also had the look music executives search for in upcoming talent.

However, the buck stopped for Virginia in the running for the Top 5 spot after she did not receive enough votes. The rules are the rules and that meant the game would force the twins to separate.

Then, the unthinkable happened: Viggy forfeited her spot for the simple fact that her twin sister was eliminated.

This, of course, caused a media frenzy but the twins’ misfortune would work in their favour because watching on with inspiration, was Afrotainment honcho and musical legend, DJ Tira.

What we know about the deal with Afrotainment

According to the man himself, who spoke to Tshisa Live not so long ago, DJ Tira claims he was inspired by the unity the twins showed in exiting the competition the way they did.

Even better was the fact that the Qwabe twins have incredible vocal talents and the star power to match it.

“We just want to make music. We are busy talking about how we [are] going to do the tracks. And once they can come to the studio, hopefully in the next two to three weeks, we might have some new music,” DJ Tira said in October.

A month later, after release settlement agreements were reached with Gallo Music, the twins’ former label, and Think Entertainment (their management), it was confirmed that the duo had inked a deal with Afrotainment.

The details of the deal and how many years they’ve been contracted to release music under the label have not been made public.

However, the Qwabe twins have already hit the ground running at Afrotainment with the release of their debut single, Hamba, which drops on Friday, 29 November.

A testament to their contentment and how they are in the right frame of mind to conquer this fickle thing we call fame can be seen in this IG post that Viggy published, promoting the upcoming single.
