South African artist Thokozani “L’vovo Derrango” Ndlovu withdrew from the 2023 Cotton Fest DBN lineup, scheduled for Sunday, 2 July 2023.
Why did L’vovo withdraw from 2023 Cotton Fest DBN lineup?
L’vovo’s decision stems from ongoing health issues, which have hindered his ability to deliver a live performance, the musician explained in a statement released on social media.
Since experiencing a stroke in December 2022, L’vovo has been grappling with his physical well-being, enduring a challenging recovery period that left him bedridden and unable to walk for several months.
Despite showing signs of improvement and resuming bookings for events and shows, the singer’s current health status has compelled him to decline his appearance at Cotton Fest.
In a statement, L’vovo expressed gratitude for the unwavering support he has received from his fans, family, and friends throughout these arduous months.
He also acknowledged his ongoing discussions with his doctor regarding his condition.
“The past few months have been one of the toughest periods of my life,” he admitted. “I’ve literally had to watch my life flash before me.”
L’vovo conveyed his appreciation to the event organisers for extending the invitation to perform at the 2023 Cotton Fest DBN but regretfully announced his inability to participate in the festival this weekend.
He offered a sincere apology for the cancellation and expressed his hope of joining the lineup once he has made a full recovery.
This development comes after fans boycotted L’vovo’s appearance when the 2023 Cotton Fest DBN lineup first surfaced earlier this month.
At the time, the KZN veteran was determined to prove his seniority against a crowd of Gen-Z’s, who were either babies or, not yet birthed, when Derrango took over the airwaves in 2007.
“[I am] most wanted …engenza indaba (I make the news),” he said. I hear I’ve been trending for days on social media. It means you guys want to see me and I will not disappoint you. I will be at Cotton Fest on July 2,” he said at the time.
Cotton Fest had not issued a statement announcing a replacement headliner when this article was published.
