DJ Zinhle Umlilo: Rakes in the streams
The fans might have a valid point. The numbers sure do not lie. In the three months that the song has been dropped, it garnered more than 5-million streams.
This means that right at the start of the festive season, Umlilo is sitting at four-times platinum status.
One can only imagine what the stream count will be once the festive season has come and gone.
One thing is for sure, though: uMama ka Kairo is doing the most right now.
This is how the collaboration happened
In a recent interview with Tshisa Live, DJ Zinhle, Rethabile and Mvzzle, reflected on how the song came to be.
“I met uZinhle when she was a judge on the show 1s and 2s. I was one of the top three, so after that I sent her a beat, actually I sent her three beats, and she said, ‘OK, I like these two but this one, there’s something in it,'” Mvzzle recalled.
After delays in recording the song, due to conflicting schedules with other artists, Rethabile — an acquaintance of Mvzzle, contacted DJ Zinhle on Instagram.
That leap of faith was reciprocated by the DJ and, well, the rest is history.
“We are feeling a little shocked about the news. 5.1 million streams is really crazy,” Zinhle exclaimed.
Fans believe Umlilo will perform just s well on the awards circuit and, you know what, they might just have a point.
