Lara Langaveld, the mother of South African music star Constantinos “Costa Titch” Tsobanoglou, continues to grapple with certain aspects of his cause of death, four months after his untimely passing on 11 March 2023.
Costa Titch mom raises these questions about rapper’s cause of death
As investigations into the cause of his death continue, Langaveld expressed her anguish and categorically debunked the notion that a seizure was responsible for his collapse during a performance at the Ultra Music Festival in Johannesburg, per City Press.
With toxicology results pending, she raised concerns about potential foul play and called for a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding her son’s demise.
Unanswered Questions and Emotional Turmoil
Langaveld, speaking from her home in Mbombela, Mpumalanga, revealed that the period since her son’s death has been the most challenging of her life.
She vividly expressed the profound grief and void left by his absence, lamenting the inability to connect with him daily as they had before. As each day passes without answers, Langaveld’s emotional distress remains acute, underscoring the urgent need for closure.
“We still have had no answers, but the pathologist who did his autopsy has been very kind to me during this [difficult time]. I won’t rest [until I know what happened to my son],” she said.
Investigation Status and the Quest for Answers
With the investigation ongoing, Langaveld highlighted the extended timeline required by the National Health Laboratory Services to finalise toxicology tests.
Frustrated by the lack of concrete information, Titch’s mom pleaded for support from individuals who may shed light on the circumstances surrounding her son’s death.
“I’m pleading for help to get the answers as the police cannot do anything without these medical results,” said Langaveld.
Emphasising the importance of the pending medical results, she highlighted the potential implications for criminal accountability and the urgency to prevent perpetrators from evading justice.
Discrediting the Seizure Narrative
Langaveld vehemently refuted claims that her son’s collapse on stage was due to epilepsy, challenging the accuracy of this portrayal.
Observing the video footage of the incident, she dismissed the notion of a seizure, citing the pathologist’s assessment that the fall did not pose a life-threatening risk.
By sharing her firsthand knowledge of her son’s health and the absence of epilepsy, she aims to dispel false information and redirect the investigation toward other potential causes.
“All she could tell me is that they were waiting for the toxicology [results]. I know and everyone close to Costa knows that he never took drugs. So the only thing I can think of is poison,” she said.
Remembering Costa Titch’s Legacy
Despite the pain of losing her son, Langaveld fondly recalled his qualities, describing him as kind-hearted, gentle, assertive, wise, and level-headed for his age.
Grateful for the support she has received from her son’s team and fans, she cherished the memories and continues to honour Costa Titch’s legacy.
Recognising the acts of kindness from the Mpumalanga Department of Arts and Culture, Langaveld emphasised her determination to seek justice to protect others from experiencing a similar fate.
“I will always suffer from the loss of my son. But I do know he is in heaven and in a better place. One day I will see him again,” she said.
