It is Castle Lite Unlocks season and social media is abuzz about who is going to be headlining this year’s concert.
Castle Lite Unlocks celebrates 10 years
Time sure is a fleeting concept because it feels like only yesterday when Drake was unlocked by the premium beer brand, in 2011. Rumours of the 6 God coming to South Africa in 2020 almost broke the internet but unfortunately, it turns out this was fake news.
However, there will be nothing fake about the 10-year anniversary of Castle Lite Unlocks as the brand prepares to take things to the next level.
Castle Lite Unlocks: Clues on the mystical headliner
Castle Lite has kept its cards very close to its chest on who this year’s headliner will be. At this time, only the brand’s creative team and Youngsta CPT know who the headliner will be.
Castle Lite has teased a few clues about the headliner but, as expected, these leave us nowhere close to figuring it out who it will be.
Here’s what we can confirm:
- the flamboyant multi-award-winning and record-breaking artist yields a global fan base;
- he/she will bring their unique flair to Mzansi;
- they will mark a big shift in the way Castle Lite has done things before;
- they are an international artist;
- they are on top of their game;
- this will be the first time they perform in South Africa; and
- they’ve never been on the Castle Lite Unlocks stage before.
Four artists we believe will most likely headline Castle Lite Unlocks
Using the above-mentioned hints as a guide, we have come up with four artists we believe will likely be tapped for a tour to Mzansi. Castle Lite is not short of any funds so the scope of the headliner they could bring down is limitless.
Therefore, based on international artists currently on the verge of embarking on an international tour, these are the three acts we think are likely to headline Castle Lite Unlocks:
Cardi B
- Released Invasion of Privacy in April 2018;
- on the verge of rolling out her sophomore project in 2020;
- has won multiple awards and holds the record as the first female to win Best Rap Album at the Grammy Awards
Roddy Ricch
- Released Please Excuse Me for Being Antisocial December 2019;
- will embark on an international tour between March and July 2020;
- became the first rapper, since 50 Cent, to top the Billboard 200 album charts.
Lil Nas X
- Released 7 in June 2019
- while he has not announced any tour dates, he has been booked for a number of international festivals;
- his single, Old Town Road broke the record for the longest consecutive run in the No. 1 spot (17 weeks) on the Billboard Hot 100 charts.
Russ
- Released Shake the Snow Globe in February 2020;
- the rapper’s US tour runs between March and June 2020, with international dates set to be announced soon;
- the only pick that is not recognised for breaking a record.
How to purchase a Castle Lite Unlocks ticket
The beer brand confirmed that this year’s headliner will be announced on Thursday 20 February at 20:00. Limited early bird tickets will also go on sale for R50 from 15:00, with the price increasing by R50 every 30 minutes thereafter until 19:30, 30 minutes before the headliner is unlocked.
“Castle Lite Unlocks is in its 10th year now and has seen a decade of extraordinary musical talent, a celebration of a culture which has captivated the world and also brought African Hip-Hop to the fore. It is now time to step things up and take Unlocks to new heights while paying homage to the culture of Hip-Hop in Africa,” Castle Lite Brand Director, Silke Bucker said in a statement.
The mystery has kept the buzz going on social media and we are excited to find out who will boss the stage at this year’s concert.
