Tony Forbes, the father of late rapper Kiernan “AKA” Forbes, shared his emotions and thoughts regarding the ongoing investigation into his son’s murder.
The latest on the AKA murder case, according to Tony Forbes
The Mass Country hitmaker was tragically shot dead outside a restaurant in Durban on Friday, 10 February 2023, leaving his family and Megacy devastated.
As the investigation continues, Tony reflected on his son’s legacy and how he copes with the grief, in a chat with Tshisa Live.
Grieving The Loss Of A Son
Tony Forbes recently attended a platinum plaque handover event honouring last Kiernan’s album, which garnered significant success posthumously.
Emotionally, he expressed pride and gratitude for the impact his son had on the world.
Despite the tragic loss, Tony finds solace in the fact that people still want to hear AKA’s music and be inspired by him.
Patience in the Investigation
Forbes acknowledged the pain of waiting for answers in his son’s murder case.
He emphasised the importance of allowing investigators to conduct a thorough process to ensure justice is done.
Although the investigation might seem slow, Tony said he remains hopeful for progress and stays in touch with the authorities for updates.
“There are days where one hopes to hear the news that something happened. But we still want to give the process space. We are in touch with investigators and they keep us abreast, it does seem slow, but it’s only [been] six months,” he said.
The grieving father shared that visiting places his son used to frequent, such as Soho Night Club, Drama Bar Lounge, or Coco, helps him feel closer to Kiernan.
While some might have mixed feelings about his actions, Tony explained that it is a way for him to cope with the loss and hold on to good memories of his son.
“Through what I post on Instagram I hope to bring the good memories and tell the stories, that is the intentional side. The unintentional side is I struggle with the loss and I’m not the type of person who can sit at home and cry all day. I cry all day because I miss him so much, but then I go to where he used to work, I feel closer to him. I’m not saying that is the right way for me to grieve and deal with the loss,” he added.
While, for the most part, details about AKA’s murder investigation are scarce, reports surfaced in June 2023, suggesting authorities had made a breakthrough in the case.
At the time, it was reported that police had uncovered vital evidence, including the firearm used in the murders of AKA and his former manager Tebello ‘Tibz’ Motsoane, following meticulous investigative work.
Additionally, a prepaid airtime voucher, used by one of the alleged hitmen to communicate with the orchestrators of the murders and his girlfriend, was reportedly discovered.
These reports, however, have yet to be ventilated by authorities working on the murder investigation.
At this juncture, AKA’s murder is headed toward the cold case department, as days tumble on without a word from the police.
