On the week of Monday, 12 June 2023, Eskom expects to keep the loadshedding schedule rotating between a pattern of no outages and Stage 3.
UPDATE: On Wednesday, 14 June 2023, Eskom confirmed rotational blackouts will maintain the same pattern of no loadshedding from midnight to 16:00 and Stage 3 in the evenings “due to the consistent available generation capacity.” See the updated loadshedding schedule below.
Here’s the loadshedding schedule for week of Monday, 12 June 2023
On Sunday, 11 June 2023, Eskom revealed in a statement that rotational blackouts will resume at Stage 4 from 16:00 until midnight.
Thereafter, barring no unforeseen breakdowns, households will enjoy no loadshedding on Monday until 16:00. The power utility further explained that “on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday, loadshedding will be reduced to Stage 3 from 16:00 until midnight.”
“This is due to a continued improvement in available generation capacity as a result of three units that were previously on outage being returned to service,” the state-owned electricity supplier noted.
Despite the positive outlook, Eskom is still plagued by capacity constraints.
On Sunday, the power supplier reported that unplanned breakdowns amounted to more than 16 115MW, about 1 115MW above the 15 00MW threshold set by Eskom in its winter plan.
“Over the past 24 hours, a generation unit each at Kriel and Hendrina power stations were taken out of service due to breakdowns, The further delays in returning to service a generating unit at Grootvlei, Hendrina, Majuba and Tutuka power stations are contributing to the current capcity constraints,” Eskom explained.
The power utility assured South Africans that “the team is working tirelessly to ensure that generating units are returned to service as soon as possible.”
