The United States is on fire and fuelling the rage felt across all states is the tragic death of George Floyd at the hands of Minneapolis law enforcement officials.

It was on this day, a week ago, when the world was shaken by the stonecold actions taken by former Minnesota Police Department (MPD) officer Derek Chauvin.
The 44-year-old was part of a team of officers who responded to a call from a convenience store where George Floyd and two friends had allegedly used a fake $20 bill (R348,74) to purchase a 20-pack of cigarettes.
A collection of video clips taken from the scene of the murder have been pieced together the events that transpired in the 30-minute encounter between Floyd and the MPD officers.

It was only after the Minneapolis community broke out in protests that the state’s district attorney took the decision to institute criminal charges against Chauvin.
The ex-officer faces charges of third-degree murder and manslaughter and while this came as welcomed news, international observers and protesters on the ground demanded the arrest and prosecution of three other officers who were directly involved in the murder of Floyd.
