Tina Lawson files for divorce: Here’s everything we know
The news of the couple’s split emerged after Ms Tina filed for divorce on Wednesday, citing irreconcilable differences as the reason for their decision to part ways in court papers first reported on by TMZ.
Tina Knowles and Richard Lawson’s relationship dates back decades. In a 2019 interview, Richard revealed his connection to Knowles dates back to 1981 when she was pregnant with her eldest daughter, Beyoncé.
However, their romantic journey began in 2013, and they tied the knot in April 2015. Despite the end of their marriage, Lawson fondly remembered Tina’s beauty, both inside and out, and praised her quiet and beautiful spirit.
Lawson emphasised the respect they had for each other, as Tina was married to Mathew Knowles, with whom she had Beyoncé and Solange, from 1980 to 2011.
Ms Tina wants to waive spousal support
During those years, Lawson and Tina maintained a friendship, even as their paths temporarily diverged due to Beyoncé’s rising career.
However, around six years ago, they reconnected and eventually became husband and wife.
In her divorce filing, Knowles reportedly requested that the court waive any spousal support in either direction.
Richard Lawson, a decorated Vietnam War veteran with a Purple Heart, boasts a remarkable career onscreen, including roles in popular films like How Stella Got Her Groove Back, For Coloured Girls, and Poltergeist.
