During the first hour of Tuesday night’s event, a backstage clip from MTV’s live feed seemed to capture a heated exchange between Megan Thee Stallion and Justin Timberlake.
However, a backstage source has since confirmed that there was no altercation between the two artists, per Variety.
The incident occurred either before or after Megan Thee Stallion’s performance with Cardi B in their new single Bongos.

In the backstage footage, Megan appears to be in conversation with Justin Timberlake, who had earlier performed with his former NSYNC bandmates during the show.
In the clip, Timberlake leans in to speak to Megan, wearing a smile. Megan, on the other hand, responds by pointing her finger emphatically and then turns away, looking visibly upset.
Joey Fatone of NSYNC can also be seen saying something during the interaction.

Despite appearances, a backstage source who witnessed the exchange told Variety that there was no actual argument.
According to the source, Timberlake told Megan, “It’s so nice to meet you,” and she replied, “No, no, this doesn’t count. We’ve got to meet properly.”
The source described the interaction as “very cute.”
A second eyewitness source corroborated this account, adding that Megan was excited to meet Justin Timberlake for the first time and that she holds him in high regard.
While neither Megan Thee Stallion nor Justin Timberlake has officially commented on the incident, NSYNC has been dropping hints about a potential reunion for some time.
Taylor Swift, who received the evening’s first award for Best Pop Video from the group, playfully asked if they had plans for something more. This has fuelled speculation about a possible reunion or collaboration.
One prominent rumour suggests that NSYNC has recorded a new song, written by Timberlake, for Trolls Band Together, the upcoming third instalment in DreamWorks’ animated franchise.
The movie’s trailers indicate a boy band reunion storyline for Timberlake’s character, Branch, with all five NSYNC members potentially joining him in the film.
