Australian-born rapper Iggy Azalea was one of the supporters who pleaded for leniency at the Tory Lanez sentencing, the Los Angeles Superior Court heard on Monday.
Iggy Azalea pleads for Tory Lanez pardon: Here’s what you must know
Lanez, real name Daystar Peterson, appeared before Judge David Herriford, who, on Monday, bore the burden of determining a just sentence to equal the scales of justice in the Megan Thee Stallion shooting incident.
According to prominent legal reporter Meghann Cuniff, drama unfolded right at the start of Monday’s proceedings, with Lanez’s representatives placing more than 70 letters of support for the Canadian star on record, including a note of support from Iggy Azalea.
While the contents of Iggy’s plea are expected to surface soon, Judge Herriford reportedly revealed that Azalea asked him to impose a sentence “that is transformational, not life-destroying.”
The court also heard from Lanez, himself, who, according to Cuniff, tearfully apologised to the judge for his courtroom outburst when the verdict was delivered in December 2022.
The Canadian rapper admitted he was emotional at the time and his outrageous behaviour was, in no way, an intention to disrespect Judge Herriford.
Iggy and Lanez first sparked dating rumours at the height of the Say It rapper’s shooting saga, in October 2022, when fans spotted the pair on dates in Miami, Florida.
Weeks before he was found guilty of shooting Megan Thee Stallion, Tory Lanez ruffled feathers with a tweet declaring himself the executive producer of Iggy Azalea’s next album, a claim the Australian rapper corroborated in a since-deleted tweet reply.
“You’re all very welcome to speak your opinion freely about me… just as long as we all have an understanding: you are having a monologue & not a discussion with me – because (respectfully) my bills remain paid without your two cents,” she wrote at the time.
When this article was published, Lanez’s sentencing was still ongoing, with proceedings halted for a 90-minute break.
