Drake has set a new record, surpassing all artists in history for the most single units sold, according to the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA).
Drake sets new RIAA record with most single units sold in history
Drizzy capped off his 37th birthday celebrations in epic fashion when ‘Mr Morgan’, the OVO Sound President, revealed that Drake has become the first artist in RIAA history to surpass 200 million units in a string of texts shared by the Canadian megastar.
The Canadian rapper’s tally currently stands at an impressive 220 million units sold.
Drake’s monumental achievement includes contributions from notable works such as his 2011 album Take Care and the 2013 hit single Started From the Bottom, both of which are inching toward diamond plaques at 8x platinum.
It’s worth noting that RIAA single units encompass various categories, including record purchases, permanent downloads, and streams.
Drake has consistently excelled in these categories, outpacing even legendary acts like Elvis, The Beatles, and Michael Jackson, particularly in the realms of digital downloads and streams.
His latest contribution to this record is the dance album Honestly, Nevermind, which has sold one million units.
The project was spearheaded by South African megastar, Black Coffee, who is credited as a producer and co-writer on multiple tracks, including Texts Go Green, Currents, and Overdrive.
This year alone, Drake has received updated RIAA certifications for various albums and singles, solidifying his iconic status in the industry.
