Demi Moore, ex-wife of Bruce Willis, recently opened up about her experiences and offered advice for families dealing with dementia.
Demi Moore shares update on Bruce Willis dementia
During an appearance on Andy Cohen’s SiriusXM show, Radio Andy, alongside her Feud: Capote Vs. The Swans castmates, Moore discussed her blended family and her close bond with Willis.
When asked about her message for those with family members suffering from dementia, Moore emphasised the importance of meeting them where they’re at.
She advised letting go of who the person has been or who you think they should be.
This approach, she believes, helps to stay in the present and appreciate the joy and love that are still present in the person, rather than focusing on what they’re not.
“When you let go of who they’ve been or who you think they [should be], or who even you would like them to be, you can then really stay in the present, and take in the joy and the love that is present and there for all that they are, not all that they’re not,” she said.
Moore’s insights resonate with many who care for loved ones with dementia. The challenge of adapting to the changing dynamics of a relationship with a dementia patient is something many families face.
Willis, now 68, has been struggling with aphasia, a condition that affects his ability to speak and understand speech, as a byproduct of his dementia.
Despite these challenges, Moore has been spending a lot of time with Willis, his wife, Emma Heming, and their children.
The family has been rallying around Willis during this difficult time, underscoring the importance of family support in dealing with health crises.
Moore and Willis, who were married from 1987 to 2000, have maintained a close friendship even after their divorce.
Moore has been a proponent of their blended family, celebrating special occasions together and supporting each other through life’s challenges.
This was evident in the recent celebration of Willis’ 68th birthday, where Moore shared heartfelt moments and thanked fans for their love and support.
