The fashion industry is always rapidly growing and changing. However, in recent years its negative impact on the environment has come under intense scrutiny. As one of the biggest fast fashion companies, H&M has found ways to recycle clothes while helping women become entrepreneurs by partnering with Clothes to Good.
What is Clothes to Good?
Clothes to Good (CTG) is a social enterprise that recycles used and new clothes. The initiative is meant to help create micro-business opportunities for women, more especially for mothers of disabled children. The micro-business program empowers 108 women, 56 of whom have children with disabilities.
Therefore, H&M has collaborated with the Clothes to Good organisation to encourage consumers to recycle their pre-loved items by dropping them off at their nearest H&M store to get them transformed into new pieces of clothing. All of these clothes will be an improvement to the lives of women and children living in poverty.
How recycle your clothes with H&M
The one thing about fast fashion is that trends come as fast as they go. This leaves us with clothes that are out of season and end up taking up space in our closets. However, with H&M, you can recycle clothes from the best to the worst condition, big or small, and all brands are acceptable.
Here is a step-by-step guide on how to recycle your unwanted clothing and secure a 15% H&M discount card.
- Go through your closet and devide your clothes into two piles; ‘Keep’ and ‘Recylce’.
- Make sure the clothes are clean.
- Put the clothes into bags.
- Drop the bags of clothes off at your nearest H&M store and recieve a 15% H&M discount card for your next purchase.
The youth of today has been at the forefront of many movements, including the advocacy for a better and greener climate. The Good for Clothes organization has shown that over 100 000 students have donated their clothes, and with the help of fashion giants like H&M, fashion seems to be making strides and moving in the right direction.
