Good Friday does not feel all that good this year. A day Christians commemorate the crucifixion of Jesus Christ has become another day in quarantine.
The world has been at war with an unseen enemy for four months. To date, coronavirus (COVID-19) has infected more than 1.4 million people and claimed more than 85,000 lives.
With no vaccine in sight, the only effective way to eradicate this threat is to self-isolate. This is why, on Thursday evening, President Cyril Ramaphosa extended South Africa’s nationwide lockdown for a further two weeks.
Spending Easter in self-isolation
Christians had already come to terms with the reality that this year’s Easter would be spent indoors.
However necessary this measure of isolation is, it still provides little comfort knowing that Good Friday, one of the most important days of observance in the Christian calendar, will not be commemorated.
Fortunately, though, we live in an era where technology has made life in lockdown a little more bearable. Churches around the world have found alternative ways to spread the word of God.
We have done our bit in finding these Christian channels that, for the remainder of Good Friday, will be broadcasting live sermons.

It doesn’t make it better but at least, this is a way of connecting with other Christians from other parts of the world who, like us, are trapped in self-isolation.
