A fiery encounter between hijacking suspects and police in Zandvlei ended in an epic takedown, on Wednesday morning.

Cape Town police foiled a brazen hijacking near the popular estuary, at the start of a busy work day.
According to reports, At least three K9 unit vehicles were involved in chasing down a navy blue Mercedes Benz C200 that had been hijacked in the Muizenberg region.
Details on the Zandvlei hijacking are still scarce but a look at the crime scene photo, showing three suspects pinned to the ground and cuffed, suggests the alleged hijackers may have sustained injuries from a shootout with police.
The identities of the suspects were not released at the time this article was published. It’s believed the alleged hijackers will likely be charged with grand theft and the illegal possession of firearms.
Western Cape police recorded marquee arrests in the long weekend operation targeted toward increasing visibility in hotspot areas in and around townships.
In a statement, provincial police spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Malcolm Pojie shared details of two unrelated sting operations that resulted in significant drug busts.
On Monday, 20 March 2023, a team of officers pounced on a property identified as a possible drug haven situated in Summerville, Harare.
“During the search, members found and confiscated 9 bags containing compressed dagga with a weight of more than 9kg,” the police revealed.
A 41-year-old Tanzanian national was arrested and charged with drug dealing, as well as “the contravention of the Immigration Act.”
On the same day, 11km north of Summerville, in Rosedale, Delft, a 25-year-old male suspect was arrested and charged with the illegal possession of a firearm after police pounced on a property on Wariektree Street and found “a 9mm Clock pistol with 2 magazines and a total of 34x9mm rounds of ammunition.”
“These suspects [are] scheduled to make their respective court appearances, once charged,” Lt-Col Pojie confirmed.
