The incident, caught on CCTV, has left the community and authorities deeply concerned. The search for the suspects is currently underway.
According to police spokesperson Joseph Swartbooi, law enforcement officers swiftly responded to a reported business robbery at approximately 03:00.
Preliminary reports suggest that three unknown individuals gained entry to the premises by posing as patients in need of medical assistance. Tragically, they exploited this guise to perpetrate their nefarious plans.
Once inside, the criminals brandished firearms, menacingly targeting the security guards stationed at the gate. The assailants robbed the guards of their personal belongings before making a hasty escape.
Miraculously, no injuries were reported during the incident. However, the psychological impact on those involved and the wider community cannot be overlooked.
Monique Johnstone, Western Cape health spokesperson, expressed strong condemnation for this heinous act of crime. She emphasized that healthcare facilities are places of healing and sanctuary for those seeking medical care, particularly the sick and vulnerable. Such acts of violence not only undermine the sense of security but also impede the delivery of essential healthcare services.
Johnstone reiterated that the robbery appeared to be meticulously planned, specifically targeting the clinic’s vulnerability and the people within the community who rely on its services.
She called for the perpetrators to be brought to justice, highlighting the urgent need to ensure the safety and well-being of both healthcare workers and patients.
