The scene captured by this police dashcam of a high-speed car chase between Johannesburg Metro Police Department’s (JMPD) K-9 Unit and a suspected hijacker is something ripped out of the scripts of a Hollywood action thriller.
Hijackers attempt to flee from JMPD K-9 Unit
According to reports from renowned crime microblogger @crimeairnetwork, the gold Toyota Fortuner engaged in the car chase on the N12 highway in Oakdene was hijacked by an unknown number of suspects in Protea Glen, about 33km away.
The team of officers taled the Fortuner until it lost control and swerved offroad. Multiple shots were fired by the officers in an attempt to stop the vehicle and after successfully doing so, they were faced with another challenge; catching the suspects on foot.
As you will hear in the video, moments after the Fortuner crashed, a number of officers approached the stolen car on foot and a further five gunshots were fired.
How many Fortuner hijackers were arrested?
The video ends as the police vehicle capturing the footage took the Comaro offramp and turned into the area where the Fortuner had crashed, in search of the suspects who, at this point, had fled on foot.
It’s still unknown how many suspects were involved in the hijacking incident. However, we can confirm that one alleged hijacker was nabbed by the JMPD.

At this time, the condition of the Fortuner is unknown. It is presumed that, after evidence processing has been conducted, it was returned to its owner.
