According to the eyewitness, who filmed the aftermath of the robbery, an unidentified group of armed suspects held the entire store hostage, while ransacking cashier tills of every cent within their grasp.
Shoppers, stunned by the sheer gall of the robbers, scattered across the supermarket, some finding shelter beneath shelves while others ran into backend areas reserved for staff.
While it’s unclear, at this juncture, if any victims were injured during the ordeal, the eyewitness alleged that at least five gunshots rang out in the supermarket before the armed robbers made for the exit.

Visibly shaken, shoppers who were subjected to the harrowing ordeal resurfaced from their hiding places. A security guard, who allegedly encountered the robbers before they stuck up the Pick n Pay supermarket, revealed he was disarmed of his handgun and radio, making it impossible for him to not only intercept the robbery but also alert the police.
It’s believed Johannesburg authorities cordoned off the supermarket and collected forensic evidence before the store resumed normal operations on Thursday.
This is a developing story.
