VIDEO: Onlookers film Cape Town businessman kidnapping
Details around the incident are still sketchy, but the harrowing scenes that unfolded on a busy street in Mitchell’s Plain sent shockwaves across social media when footage captured by onlookers surfaced on Friday evening.
It’s yet to be confirmed when this alleged kidnapping happened. However, according to renowned crime reporter Yusuf Abramjee, the man filmed getting shoved into a sedan by two men was identified as Akter Pradhan, a Bangladeshi businessman. He owns a large Cash n Carry store in Mitchell’s Plain.
Eyewitnesses who live on a property only feet away from the abduction scene watched on in horror as the men struggled to fit Pradhan in the vehicle. The businessman showed a great deal of strength in trying to break free from the men’s grasp, but, unfortunately, his efforts were futile.
The men managed to shove Pradhan into the vehicle before skidding away, leaving the businessman’s white hatchback abandoned on the side of the road.
This is still a developing story. Therefore, the whereabouts and conditions of the Cape Town businessman were unknown at the time this article was published.
This article will be updated with more information when Cape Town police return to us with a statement.
