The accused serial killer, Sifiso Mkhwanazi, appeared in the Johannesburg Magistrates Court on Tuesday morning, where an additional rape charge was brought against him.
Sifiso Mkhwanazi faces additional rape charge, court hears
Mkhwanazi, a 21-year-old individual, had previously been arrested in connection with the horrifying discovery of six bodies of sex workers, including one who was pregnant, found at his father’s workshop back in October 2022.
During Tuesday’s court proceedings, the prosecution, represented by Tshepo Mahange kaMzizi, revealed that they had received new information related to a separate incident.
The directive from the director of Public Prosecutions in the south has prompted them to pursue a matter under the Sexual Offenses Act, which allegedly occurred prior to the events surrounding the six victims.
KaMzizi announced that they will study Mkhwanazi’s rape docket and potentially merge it with the ongoing murder case against him.
Although the State initially charged Mkhwanazi with the murder of only one of the women, reliable sources indicate that he has been positively linked to all six bodies, further intensifying the gravity of the charges against him and, effectively, making him South Africa’s latest serial killer.
The court decided to postpone the proceedings to the following month, allowing the prosecution ample time to thoroughly examine the new evidence and build a comprehensive case against the accused.
As investigations continue, the victims’ families and the community at large anxiously await justice to be served.
