An extensive investigation into illegal activities at a notorious drug outlet in Essopville, Beaufort West, resulted in the arrest of a 45-year-old man, Shaun Booysen.
Shaun Booysen: How Essopville drug lord was captured
The suspect made his initial court appearance at the Beaufort West Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday, 2 August 2023, after a well-executed operation by law enforcement authorities.
In a statement, provincial police spokesperson Sergeant Christopher Spies revealed that collaborative effort involving the Provincial Organised Crime Investigation (narcotic section), Central Karoo K9, and Provincial Crime Combatting Team (POCC) culminated in the successful operation on Monday, 31 July 2023.
Armed with a search warrant, the police raided the premises located on Ralwin Street, Essopville, Beaufort West, leading to significant seizures of illegal substances and evidence.
Substantial Confiscation of Drugs
During the operation, law enforcement officers seized 498 mandrax tablets, 20g of tik (methamphetamine), and 4 units of cocaine.
In addition to the drugs confiscated during the recent operation, a total of 1 897 mandrax tablets, 70 kilograms of tik, and 39 units of cocaine were seized during several previous operations conducted at the same premises since 22 December 2022.
The authorities also discovered R9 250 in cash and three 9mm rounds in a magazine, which were seized as well.
Furthermore, the suspect’s vehicle, a Toyota Auris, was confiscated.
Facing Serious Charges
Shaun Booysen is now facing multiple charges, including drug dealing, possession of suspected stolen property, and unlawful possession of ammunition.
Due to the seriousness of the charges, he was remanded in custody until the next court appearance, scheduled for 8 August 2023, when a formal bail application will be made.
This case is part of an ongoing police investigation, and authorities anticipate that additional charges may be added as the investigation progresses.
