The murder trial of former Bafana Bafana captain, Senzo Meyiwa, took a shocking turn as damning evidence emerged linking singer Kelly Khumalo with one of the suspects.
Kelly Khumalo in contact with alleged killer days after Senzo Meyiwa murder
In the Pretoria High Court, Colonel Lambertus Steyn, an experienced analyst at the SA Police Service’s Cold Case Unit, revealed crucial cellphone records that showed communication between Kelly Khumalo and accused number one, Muzi Sibiya, after Meyiwa’s murder on 26 October 2014.
During the trial, Colonel Lambertus Steyn brought forth cellphone records that pointed to significant links between Kelly Khumalo, Muzi Sibiya, and the other suspects.

Cellphone Data Proves Kelly Khumalo Had Communication With The Accused
The cellphone records showed communication not only between Kelly Khumalo and Muzi Sibiya but also with accused number five, Sfisokuhle Ntuli.
In addition to Khumalo’s communication with the accused, the cellphone records revealed that Muzi Sibiya had also been in contact with Meyiwa’s ex-wife, Mandisa Mkhize.
These connections are being carefully examined to determine their significance in the context of the murder.
Earlier in the trial, the State’s third witness, Nthabiseng Mokete, testified to witnessing three men running separately after the shooting of Senzo Meyiwa.
This testimony, coupled with the new cellphone evidence, has raised questions about the events surrounding Meyiwa’s brutal murder in Vosloorus in October 2014.
The Senzo Meyiwa trial will continue with the cross-examination of Colonel Lambertus Steyn on Monday, 31 July 2023. As more evidence is presented and witnesses testify, the court seeks to unravel the truth behind the murder of the former football captain.
