It has been three days since Sanelisiwe Mfaba was discovered dumped near the Dobsonville Gardens bridge in Extension 3 and we now know a bit more about how she may have ended up there.
Sanelisiwe Mfaba murder: What’s the latest?
When authorities collected her body from the area she was discovered on Friday 12 June, very little was known about how she had gotten there, who may have killed her and for what reason.
However, the news of her tragic death quickly spread and soon, more information trickled in on social media. We now know by confirmation from authorities that the man accused of murdering Sanelisiwe Mfaba is her boyfriend, a taxi driver for the Witswaterand Taxi Association (Wata), Tshepo Mashego.
It is believed that Mashego is in police custody after handing himself in and is currently facing murder charges.
Events that took place before she was killed
Speaking with Daily Sun, Mfaba’s family recounted the events that transpired the last time they spoke to her.
According to her sister Xolile Mfaba, indicated that the last time she saw the 29-year-old alive was when Mashego picked her up from a funeral service in Soweto, on Thursday.
In retrospect, Xolile recalled the bizarre text message she received from Mashego later that evening, claiming that Mfaba was too inebriated and that he was going to bring her home the next day.
The 34-year-old sister revealed that based on readings from the taxi’s tracker — information that may have been relayed to the family by detectives — Mashego was, at some point on Thursday evening, parked in an undisclosed location for more than 90 minutes, around the same time he sent that text message.
“He allegedly killed her inside his taxi and the tracker indicates he was parked in the same spot for an hour and a half,” she claimed.
Gauteng police spokesperson Captain Kay Makhubele refused to issue out further information about the case but confirmed that Mashego will be appearing before the Benoni Magistrate’s Cout on murder charges soon.
“I’m so broken because nothing can be done to bring her back to life. I’ve lost someone who meant everything to me. I hope he rots in jail,” Xolile added.
The death of Mfaba is still an ongoing investigation and more updates will be provided as they trickle in.
