Last week, a young woman from Northdale became the victim of a harrowing kidnapping. Two armed men, allegedly hired by her abusive former boyfriend, forcibly entered her home and dragged her out.
The entire incident was captured on CCTV, showing the men breaking into the property and later forcing the resisting woman out of her home and into a waiting car. Shockingly, the abduction took place in full view of bystanders who failed to intervene.
Displaying remarkable courage, the woman managed to escape her captors and sought refuge at a nearby police station in Tugela Ferry, where she reported the kidnapping.
This prompted an immediate response from the Mountain Rise police and RZS Security, leading to her safe return to her family and the opening of a kidnapping charge.
Warrant Officer Panchael Singh from Mountain Rise police disclosed that investigations revealed the woman’s ex-boyfriend as the mastermind behind the abduction.
In a crucial breakthrough, RZS Security and Mountain Rise detectives apprehended one suspect in Tugela Ferry, who was found with an unlicensed 9mm firearm.
The second suspect was arrested in Signal Hill, Pietermaritzburg. Additionally, the vehicle used in the kidnapping was located in the Upper Elandskop area.
The suspects are currently detained at the Mountain Rise police station, awaiting further legal proceedings. To help the victim cope with the trauma of her ordeal, social workers are providing her with necessary counselling and support.
