A pharmacist was viciously murdered in Westbury in a shooting that rocked the western Johannesburg community.
Who was the victim of the Westbury shooting?
Law enforcement officials and a forensics team had cordoned off a section of the business centre on Hamilton Street, on Monday afternoon.
Onlookers watched on in horror as the lifeless body of Faizel McKenzie, renowned in Westbury as ‘Faya’, was bagged and loaded in a pathology unit van.
The 43-year-old owner of Newclare Pharmacy was viciously gunned down in broad daylight outside of his establishment, on Monday afternoon.
Details about his murder are still sketchy at this time. However, according to sources, McKenzie is the latest to fall victim to a senseless shooting in the past few months.
‘Faya’ launched Newclare Pharmacy in 2015 alongside directors Mersha Jordan and Lizelle Laura Jordan.
The medical supplies outlet was a crucial part of Westbury, offering the community the convenience of close access to self-med and prescriptive services.
One community member, reacting to the tragic death, said:
“The little bit of hope I had for Westbury just left my body. I mean what’s this shootings about anymore, so anyone can just come into our communities and kill as they please we won’t even know because we busy killing each other in our own communities. we are [losing] [a businessman] that’s helping our communities, why can’t u (sp) coloured young man see we are crippling our own people by killing each other. No this is too much guys. Please stop this war.”
