In a brazen escape, eight awaiting trial prisoners broke free from the holding cells at Mankwe Magistrate’s Court in Mogwase, as disclosed by North West police officials.

The escape transpired on Tuesday when a court orderly was overpowered while escorting one of the detainees back to the cells from the courtroom.
This incident has triggered a significant police search for the six escapees still at large, with two re-captured shortly after the breakout.
The detailed narrative of the escape was provided by the North West police spokesperson, Lieutenant Colonel Amanda Funani.
She elaborated that the unfolding drama began as a court orderly was escorting one of the detainees back to the holding cells post his court appearance.
The moment the cell door was unlocked, the inmates inside pounced, overpowering the officer, and scattering in various directions to dodge capture.
Swift action from law enforcement led to the prompt re-arrest of two escapees, Lebogang Mokotleng, 27, and Tshepang Raselemane, 25, at a nearby Mogwase taxi rank.
Mokotleng is faced with grave charges including robbery with a firearm, attempted murder, and unlawful possession of firearms and ammunition, while Raselemane is being charged with robbery with a firearm, possession of a firearm and ammunition, and possession of suspected stolen property.

The remaining six escapees, identified as Tebogo Mosito, 29, Letlatsa Mpota, 31, Katlego Mafatlhe, 35, Keitumetse Lekolomi, 25, Thabang Matlho, 25, and Katlego Mkitle, 26, are known to have been arrested for severe crimes including murder, robbery with a firearm and possession of a firearm, attempted murder, and possession of suspected stolen property.
Lieutenant Colonel Funani urged the community to exercise caution and refrain from attempting to re-capture the detainees, owing to the dangerous nature of these individuals.
