Nandipha Magudumana was reportedly assaulted by two inmates at the Kroonstad correctional facility in the Free State, according to Advocate Machini Motloung.
Nandipha Magudumana survives alleged attack in prison
Magudumana’s lawyer reported that the alleged assault, perpetrated by a sangoma and another woman, was the culmination of ongoing tensions, stemming in part from Magudumana’s participation in singing and prayer sessions with other inmates.
These activities reportedly fuelled the discord between her and certain inmates, leading to the assault.
According to Motloung, this is not an isolated incident; there have been previous confrontations between Magudumana and the inmates involved in the assault.
The lawyer’s priority now is to ensure Magudumana’s placement in a cell where her safety is not at risk.
In pursuit of this, Motloung announced plans to file a complaint with the South African Human Rights Commission, aiming to secure a safer environment for his client.
The Department of Correctional Services, as of this report, has stated that they have yet to receive an official report regarding the alleged incident.
