A mass shooting in Inanda has left five men dead and one injured, and Durban police have hinted at a possible motive.
Inanda mass shooting: Durban reveal possible motive
In a statement, police spokesperson Brigadier Jay Naicker revealed that the tragic incident unfolded on Wednesday, 25 October 2023, at around 21:30.
According to Naicker, Inanda police received reports of a shooting incident in the Tambo Plaza area of Amaoti.
Upon their arrival, they discovered five deceased men in an RDP house, all in their twenties, riddled with multiple gunshot wounds.
A sixth man, also in his twenties, was found shot in the hand and was rushed to a nearby hospital for medical care.
Authorities have yet to identify the suspects responsible for the Inanda mass shooting. Preliminary reports indicate that the unknown suspects arrived at the house in a getaway vehicle before opening fire. The vehicle and its occupants fled the scene shortly after the attack.
As for the possible motive behind the mass shooting, police are exploring various leads.
While it’s still too early to confirm, initial information suggests that the attack may be drug-related. Given the severity of the crime, the Provincial Task Team, specialising in handling complex murder cases, has taken over the investigation.
At this time, no arrests have been made.
