Police in Gqeberha, Eastern Cape, have launched an inquest into the gruesome discovery made by a group of waste pickers in Missionvale, on Monday morning.
Gqeberha police in search of mom who dumped foetus
According to police spokesperson Colonel Priscilla Naidu, a group of pickers who often dig into the garbage in search of ‘salvageables’ stumbled on the foetus of a baby at a dumpsite in Missionvale, at approximately 09:00.
At this time, police have made no progress in tracking down the woman who may have inhumanely discarded her newborn. The foetus was handed over to the forensics department for further analysis and “a case of concealment of birth will be investigated by SAPS Algoa Park detectives.”
“Anyone who can assist in tracing the mother or may have information that can assist police in their investigation is asked to contact Detective Warrant Officer Errol Kleinhans on 082 302 6419 or SAPS Algoa Park on 041 401 1061 or Crime Stop 08600 10111 or their nearest police station,” Col. Naidu pleaded.
This is a developing story.
