Davenport shooting: Here’s what we know
Advanced Life Support (ALS) Paramedics, along with the South African Police Service (SAPS) and multiple security personnel, were swiftly dispatched to Davenport Lane in the Davenport area of Durban following numerous calls from the public.
Upon arrival, first responders found the area securely cornered off by law enforcement. The scene was chaotic, with evidence of the shooting visibly affecting the local community’s sense of security.
Amid the turmoil, paramedics assessed the situation, discovering one individual who had sustained minor injuries.
Initial reports suggest that the injured party was the victim of an attempted robbery by a group of men.
A shootout ensued between the assailants and the victim or possibly between the assailants and security forces. Remarkably, the victim did not sustain any gunshot wounds.
The area bore the scars of the confrontation, with one vehicle considerably damaged, sporting multiple bullet holes along its side.
The SAPS was present at the scene and has taken up the investigation.
As of now, it remains unclear whether any of the assailants were injured during the shootout, as they had vacated the scene before the arrival of law enforcement and medical responders.
The investigation will likely involve gathering forensic evidence, eyewitness accounts, and any available surveillance footage to piece together the sequence of events and hold those responsible to account.
