VIDEO: Centurion resident escapes home invasion
Details around the incident are still sketchy, but according to the metadata found on the home surveillance footage that surfaced on the internet, the home invasion took place at a residence in Centurion, Tshwane, on Friday, 30 September 2022, shortly after 12:00.
From what we understand, the person narrating the horrific events in the video clip identified herself as a friend of the victim, who drove into their driveway completely unaware the residence was the host of an active home invasion.
The surveillance footage, which you can view below, showed a white Mercedes Benz moving senselessly in and around the front gates of the property. The Benz, identified by the friend as the suspects’ vehicle, drove back and forth and in and out of the house for about a minute before a blue SUV appeared in frame.
The driver of the SUV pulled into their driveway and in a matter of seconds, they were accosted by an armed man wearing blue collar overalls.
The invader attempted to open the driver’s door while toting his firearm, seemingly gesturing the person inside to get out of the car. While his accomplice tried to reach for the passenger door, the driver, lost in fight-or-flight mode, bolted out of the driveway in reverse and escaped the intense encounter with their life.
It remains unclear if the suspects caught on camera were identified or, at best, arrested.
In an unrelated incident, a Tshwane Metro Police Department (TMPD) off-duty officer was gunned down in a hijacking in Olievenhoutbosch on Sunday morning
According to police, the officer was with his girlfriend when he was accosted by armed robbers. In a statement quoted by Rekord, TMPD spokesperson Isaac Mahamba confirmed very little could be done to save the officer’s life by the time emergency medics had arrived at the scene.
“We can confirm that a TMPD member who was off duty was shot dead. After arriving on the scene, first responders were able to locate him, only to find that he was covered with bullet wounds. He was unfortunately declared dead at the scene,” the statement read.
