Waterloo cash-in-transit heist: Here’s what we know
The incident, according to Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA), transpired shortly after a security officer from G4S exited a KFC outlet.
After loading money boxes into a shopping trolley, the security guard was allegedly ambushed by gunmen as he returned to the armoured vehicle.
The suspects made off with an undisclosed amount of cash stashed in several boxes as well as the security guard’s 9mm pistol.
Fortunately, the cash-in-transit guard survived the ordeal unscathed.
RUSA, a private security firm, was inundated with calls from the public as the robbery unfolded.
Dispatching all available officers, RUSA arrived at the scene by 13:24, aiming to secure the area and gather crucial evidence for handover to SAPS.
A statement from Durban police was not received when this article was published.
