Khayelitsha passport forgers taken down in stellar operation
Acting on a tip-off, officers from the Clanwilliam Crime Prevention Unit located the suspects at a predetermined address in Khayelitsha, renowned as a hotspot for forging documents.
The suspects, aged 26, 28, and 30, are now facing charges of fraud, forgery, and uttering.
During the operation, police confiscated equipment purportedly used for the production of fake passports. The material collected will be crucial for the investigation led by the Commercial Crime Unit, which specialises in economic crimes, including fraud and forgery.
The suspects are awaiting their court appearance at the Clanwilliam Magistrates’ Court, where they will respond to the charges brought against them.
The arrest disrupted what appears to be an operation producing fraudulent identity documents.
The outcome of the upcoming court proceedings will be closely watched as an indicator of the effectiveness of the criminal justice system in addressing document forgery.
