Watch: Anichka Penev kidnapped in Cape Town
Cape Town police are in a race against time to track down and save a 35-year-old Ukrainian national who was abducted outside Nioro Plastics on Thursday morning.
According to metadata found on the surveillance footage that has since surfaced on social media, the incident took place shortly after 10:00. In the video, Penev was seen approaching the plastics factory reportedly owned by her husband, Simeon, per Cape Town ETC, in a yellow Audi R8 coupe.
Completely unaware of the trap she was heading toward, Penev turned into Shiraz Road and right outside the entrance gates to Saxenburg Park 1, where her husband’s factory is situated, a white Toyota Avanza quickly swooped in front of her, effectively blocking her path.
Before she could switch her car to reverse, another white car blocked her from behind.
In a matter of seconds, Penev was sandwiched between two vehicles and her attempt to escape by foot was quickly quelled by four armed men, who subdued and dragged her into one of the getaway vehicles.
The abductors abandoned the Audi R8 and left with the 35-year-old.
According to reports, multiple gunshots were fired, but, as things stand, Penev’s condition is unknown.
Cape Town police, it’s believed, have yet to establish solid leads in the search for Penev. It’s also understood that the abductors may have commenced with ransom demands.
This is a developing story.
