Renowned eNCA reporter Monique Mortlock and her film crew endured a horrifying armed robbery in Khayelitsha, Cape Town, on Wednesday afternoon.
Watch: eNCA crew robbed shortly after broadcast in Khayelitsha
Mortlock was in the eastern Cape Town township providing live coverage on the dilapidated road conditions.
Township residents aren't strangers to damaged roads. Not only is this unsafe, but it also means that many areas are easily flooded when it rains. eNCA reporter @MoniqueMortlock is in Khayelitsha with an update. #DStv403 pic.twitter.com/9E5ZS1fvVh

Right after the crossing, she and her film crew were allegedly accosted by an unknown number of armed suspects.
“We were just robbed at gunpoint in Khayelitsha after doing a crossing,” she confirmed in a tweet.
‘Inept police said we can’t open a case
Fortunately, the renowned eMedia newscaster and her co-workers survived the incident unharmed. At this stage, it’s unclear what was taken.
At the height of Mortlock’s frustration, though, was the manner in which the robbery was handled by Khayelitsha police.
“My colleague and I have to deal with an inept police officer telling us we can’t open the case at this station (a 2 min drive from where it happened) because it’s not in their jurisdiction WTF!,” she wrote in a scathing tweet.
I promise neither of us were irate or rude or anythig like that. We were frustrated, yes…and only when I told him we are journalists, then he took us to a higher ranking officer. Maar ek wag nou nog vir iemand om my statement te vat

After a gruelling delay in having her case registered, Mortlock finally received assistance.
Being helped now. Everyone is being quite friendly now. Dunno if it's because the other officer stepped in to assist or if it's because we're media ♀️

At this time, the suspects involved in the brazen robbery are still at large.
