Residents of Midrand and surrounding areas like Fourways were caught off guard around 17:00 on Monday when a freak hailstorm hit the region.
Reports indicated that large hailstones battered homes and vehicles, causing extensive damage.
The aftermath of the storm left many motorists stranded on the N1 due to heavy downpours, disrupting traffic and travel plans.
The South African Weather Service (SAWS) had forecast partly cloudy skies with a turn to isolated showers and thundershowers across most of Gauteng.
For Tuesday, SAWS predicted similar weather conditions, warning of partly cloudy skies, warm temperatures, and potential isolated showers and thundershowers.
Torrential conditions were not limited to Gauteng.
In Mpumalanga, particularly the farming town of Bethal, residents experienced similar harsh weather.
The province anticipates a continuation of cloudy and cool to cold weather, with morning fog, drizzle, and occasional showers and rain, especially in eastern areas.
The weather is expected to clear to partly cloudy in the afternoon, with isolated showers and thundershowers forecasted over the Highveld and escarpment regions.
